hat miner guidelines
This annual project is named for long time Warwick Neck Garden Club member and past president Hat Miner, whose gardening skills, enthusiasm and spunk were inspirational. The purpose of this project is to provide an interesting challenge to members while informing and educating the membership. The committee consists of the winner of the previous year with two additional members. A theme is determined and presented at a meeting, typically in spring. Committee members develop a description of the project to distribute to all members providing instruction and details.
At a meeting, typically in August, participants will show their projects and judges will award prizes. The project determined as "Best in Show" has the honor of keeping the Hat Minor Horticultural Award painting for one year. In the case of two winners, the painting is shared. It is up to the Committee's discretion to award appropriate gifts for second-place and third-place winners. Judges are also thanked appropriately.
Following the event, the committee passes guidelines to the next Committee Chair, the member whose project was named "Best in Show." This includes judging criteria or rubrics, score sheets, handouts and recommendations.
