Sunshine committee guidelines
The Sunshine Committee expresses the club’s concern for a member during a recognized time of difficulty such as hospitalization, lengthy or serious illness, death. This pertains to members and their immediate families: husbands, children, siblings and parents. To recognize difficult times as noted above, we will send a card from Friends of the Warwick Neck Garden Club. In addition, in the case of a death of a member or spouse, we will also send a $50 contribution to a charity as indicated in the newspaper obituary. If none is noted, we will send a plant, edible arrangement, garden bouquet or florist flowers, preferably to the home of the member. The cost of this will vary, and it is our intent to be appropriate rather than elaborate. On an ongoing basis, we encourage members to let committee members know of another member’s situation, so the committee can respond. The secretary will work with committee members to ensure that e-cards for happy occasions are sent as noted, and that announcements go out to members, as appropriate. Our current Secretary agrees to help any members with getting out a notice to the membership. Committee member responsibilities:
- Encourage membership to alert committee to appropriate events, as noted above. We can’t take action if we don’t have the information
- Alert the membership when a card is sent, so individual members will be aware and can reach out personally, if they choose to do so
- In case of a death, alert the treasurer with all the particulars to send a donation to a charity as requested, or flowers/plant/edible arrangement to the home.
- Keep receipts of expenses for cards and stamps and submit to the treasurer
